Airbrush Troubleshooting Guide

Sometimes, you will find that your airbrush is not spraying properly or no paint is coming out of the airbrush at all / clogged.

In this article, I will share some tips on how to troubleshoot your airbrush and hopefully you will be able to get your airbrush to work properly again.

Airbrush used: Mr Hobby PROCON BOY WA 0.3 mm Premium Double Action Trigger Type

Tools Used:

  • Needle Scrapper
  • Chamber Rod
  • Chamber Brush

1. Clean The Nozzle

Unscrew the front nozzle of the Airbrush.

If possible, get a needle scrapper tool as seen in the picture below. You can try searching for Airbrush Cleaning tools at online stores. It is also for sale at Ani Mecha.

Gently scrap off the paint by twisting the needle tip through the hole of the nozzle.

After this step, you can try testing out your airbrush with an airbrush thinner. If this step does not solve the problem, you can proceed to the steps below to further troubleshoot.

2. Clean The Back Chamber Of The Airbrush

Unscrew the back cap of the Airbrush, you should see a grip screw that is holding on to the Airbrush needle. Unscrew the grip screw so that you can remove the Airbrush needle. Remove the needle slowly and place it somewhere safe where you will not accidentally bend the needle.

If possible, get a Rod Type Cleaning tool as seen in the picture below. You can try searching for Airbrush Cleaning tools at online stores. It is also for sale at Ani Mecha.

Insert and pull out the rod a few times, this is remove any large debris stuck in the rear chamber.

Remove the trigger of the Airbrush carefully.

If possible, get a Brush Type Cleaning tool as seen in the picture below. You can try searching for Airbrush Cleaning tools at online stores. It is also for sale at Ani Mecha.

Apply some Mr Hobby. Tool Cleaner on to the brush tool, insert and pull out the tool at the rear chamber as shown below.

After this step, you can try testing out your airbrush with an airbrush thinner. If this step does not solve the problem, you can proceed to the steps below to further troubleshoot.

3. Clean The Front Chamber Of The Airbrush

Remove the Airbrush tip with the tool given, be sure to store it somewhere safe. Some Airbrush models do not allow for this so be sure to check before doing so.

Apply some Mr Hobby. Tool Cleaner on to the brush tool, insert and pull out the tool at the front chamber as shown below.
