The GX-9901-DX Gundam DX was developed by mobile suit engineers from the newly established New United Nations Earth (NUNE). After recovering the wreckage of the GX-9900 Gundam X used by Jamil Neate during the 7th Space War, NUNE incorporated some of its systems into the new mobile suit known as the Double X. Additionally, due to the challenges of creating an entirely new design, the mechanics utilized the Gundam X as the foundation when developing the Double X.
